Water Security Project Strengthens Dams and Climate Resilience

Venue : Burkina Faso

Water Security Project, launched in 2024 and supported by the World Bank (IDA), is underway to improve dam safety, expand climate-smart irrigation, and enhance watershed management. The project, slated for completion in 2030, aims to boost water security and build resilience against droughts, floods, and erosion. Key components include rehabilitating priority dams, developing climate-smart irrigation systems, supporting agriculture and fish production, and implementing integrated watershed management through nature-based solutions. The project also invests in sector reforms, capacity building, and rapid emergency response mechanisms. Once completed, the initiative is expected to improve water availability, reduce climate risks, and strengthen livelihoods across drought-prone regions of Burkina Faso.
