The Third Annual Cairo Water Week (CWW) was held from 18 to 22 October 2020 in Cairo, Egypt. “Water Security for Peace and Development in Arid Regions - The Road to Dakar 2021” was the theme for this year's event. CWW is considered one of the biggest water-related events at the national, regional and international levels. It is an annual event organised by the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in collaboration with national, regional and international partners.

This 2020 Conference is the third in a series concerned with the broad topic of water and sustainable development and also part of a longer agenda of conferences, symposia, and meetings that considered the topic of Water Security.

The event addressed the main theme “Water Security in Arid Regions – the Road to Dakar 2021”, through five sub-themes overarching a broad spectrum of the water security. The main theme was chosen as a significant step towards achieving the goals of the strategic cooperation between the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI) and the Executive Secretariat of the 9th World Water Forum in Dakar- Senegal. In the framework of this cooperation, MWRI will support the Executive Secretariat as a strategic partner on the issue of water cooperation, one of the focus areas of the Forum. the CWW 2020 will pave the road for that important international high level water event the will be reconvened in Africa after that long time since the first World Water Forum was convened in Morocco in 1997.
