In Cameroon, a new wave of aquaculture development is improving incomes and food security through the Livestock and Fish Farming Value Chain Development Project, financed by the African Development Bank and implemented with the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries. The project has introduced improved clarias broodstock with higher survival rates and faster growth, enabling hatcheries to produce over 115,000 fries since late 2024. More than 280 fish farmers have received training across the value chain, and upgraded market facilities are being planned to improve hygiene and working conditions. With a goal of increasing national fish production by 10,000 tons by 2027, the initiative is strengthening technical capacity, supporting women and youth, and expanding access to quality fish in local markets.
